John Copelan

Founding Artistic Director of The Lake Country Players 2011-2017

We are saddened to learn that John Copelan, our Founding Artistic Director has passed away. In 2011 John Copelan founded the Greene County Players, a community theater troupe in residence at Festival Hall in Downtown Greensboro. He brought the passion, the vision, the energy and the expertise needed to produce 20 shows during his tenure from 2011 to 2017. John was a talented actor, gifted set designer and experienced director. He was involved in every aspect of each production, selecting shows that would appeal to our community and working tirelessly to make every production the best it could be.

In 2015 the company incorporated as a non-profit organization, changing its name to The Lake Country Players which reflected John’s desire to attract both troupe and audience members from the entire lake area, and not just Greene County.

Without John there would be no Lake Country Players. His Legacy will live on as the company he established and cherished continues forward in our mission:

“to create productions that bring people together to experience the magic of theater”.
